Eric Tweedale died aged 102 in October 2023, his death was announced by Rugby Australia and was an English-born Australian international rugby union player. He played club rugby for Parramatta Two Blues, provincial rugby for New South Wales, and internationally for the Australia national rugby union team as a prop.

Eric Tweedale was born in Rochdale, United Kingdom, and attended Guildford Public School and then Parramatta Intermediate School. After he graduated with his certificate at 14, he worked for Anthony Hordern’s in the city while learning typing and shorthand at the Metropolitan Business College. It was through the College that he gained a good job at Shells Oil Company.

Eric Tweedale has an interesting marriage life. Eric first got engaged to Enid Wagner in 1942 but their courtship and Eric’s highly promising rugby career were interrupted by World War II and the two broke up.

Eric Tweedale then found love again and got married to Isabel Duncan who happened to be his childhood lover and tied the knot in 1944 while he was still serving in the Navy.

Unfortunately for the couple, after they had been together for 20 years, Isabel died at age 42 from a terminal illness. Not long after, his mother passed away in 1964.

Eric Tweedale got married for the second time to his wife name Phyllis Addicoat, who is an American, whom he had met in England during the Wallabies tour. The marriage lasted for 42 years when Phyllis passed away in 2008.

Records had it that, at the request of the Merrylands RSL Younger Set Committee Eric Tweedale reconnected with his former fiancée Enid Bradshaw Wagner, his current partner in 2004. The two met 46 years after they separated. Their love story was featured in three televised news reports. Both reside in separate residence homes in self-care units at Peninsula Village in Umina.

Eric Tweedale was the son of Alexander Tweedale his father and Annie Tweedale Green his mother. He was born on May 5, 1921 in Rockdale, Lancashire, England. When he was three years of age, his family immigrated to Australia in 1924 and settled in Merrylands, N.S.W. Alexander his father worked for Arnotts Biscuit Factory in Homebush.
