Nick Bollettieri spent his childhood in his hometown, where he attended Pelham Memorial High School, where he was a member of the Beta Lambda Chapter of the Omega Gamma Delta Fraternity, matriculating in 1949. He then enrolled at Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, from which he graduated with a BA degree in Philosophy in 1953. Right after graduation he spent some time serving in the US Army, where he reached the rank of First Lieutenant. When discharged, he continued education at the University of Miami Law School, but from which he quit in order to begin pursuing a career as a tennis coach.

Nick’s teaching career began in 1956, and one of his first students was Brian Gottfried, who later won 25 singles titles and 54 doubles titles during his career. Subsequently, he expanded his teaching by opening his own tennis camp at Wayland Academy in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. During the mid-1970s, Nick moved to Puerto Rico, becoming the tennis director at Dorado Beach Hotel, where he worked alongside his assistant coach Julio Moros. Since then, his career has only gone upwards, as well as his net worth and popularity.

In 1977 Nick relocated to Longboat Key, Florida in order to start working as an instructor at the Colony Beach and Tennis Resort.
